THE FACES PROJECT
In 2023, artist Leo Sweron embarked on a lifelong project called “The Faces Project.” His aim is to create recognisable and thought-provoking artworks within a series suitable for both public and private display. While the project primarily centres around the human face, it extends beyond those boundaries. Sweron weaves fantasy tropes with fictional elements, resulting in an infinite and diverse range of characteristics to draw from.
“The Faces Project” encompasses an array of subjects from icons and musicians to politicians, heroes, criminals, fairies, wizards, and everyday people like me and you. Each face’s rarity is determined by its unique features—devil horns, antlers, polka-dot hair, scars, accessories, and extraordinary hairstyles to name a few. In the future a chart will be available to determine the rarity of each particular face in correlation with it's features.
Sweron’s first rendition of a face emerged on June 9th, 2023, meticulously painted on a 12mm MDF ply cut-out using acrylics and mixed media. Faces 2 to 8 followed soon after. A brief pause occurred from September 2023 to August 2024 as further planning took place.
